The Last Hundred Ensemble Inaugural Concert
Co-Founders of TLH ensemble present their inaugural concert next June 19th, 2021 at 7.30 pm. Pre-Concert talk at 7 pm. at The Herbert & Nicole Wertheim Performing Arts Center (FIU), Miami, Florida
Overview
The Last Hundred (TLH) is requesting funds for its inaugural concert that will take place on June 19, 2021 at the Wertheim Performing Arts Center in Miami. The concert will feature TLH’s newly formed ensemble performing a unique program of art music written in the last one hundred years. For this occasion, Juan Trigos, the ensemble’s artistic director and conductor has carefully selected one repertoire work by Igor Stravinsky, as well as a recent work by Mexican-American composer Ricardo Zohon-Muldoon, and two premieres by Miami based composers Federico Bonacossa and Catalina von Wrangell. The dates of composition of the works being presented range from 1920 to 2020, therefore spanning exactly one hundred years. This reflects an important aspect of the TLH’s mission; to present contemporary music in a historical context by programming new works by living composers alongside works written within the last one hundred years by both well-known and lesser-known composers. This unique program provides audience members an opportunity to experience two repertoire works that are rarely heard in concert and at the same time hear recent works written by three American composers, two of whom are based in Miami.
The Last Hundred Ensemble’s Inaugural Concert is drawing on composers and performers with a diverse international background with which we hope to invite an equally diverse audience. Since the art music being presented spans the last century, it invites audiences to contemplate the evolution of art music and broaden their understanding of its traditions and its potential trajectories. TLH hopes to nurture and deepen the appreciation for art music in Miami-Dade County and elsewhere.
By sourcing multicultural global and local art music and talent, TLH reflects Miami’s diverse populous and their experiences.
The majority of art music concerts focus either on works from the classical tradition, or exclusively on very recent works. We believe considering the program described above, this event will be a truly unique opportunity for members in our community to experience contemporary art music in a historical context.

The Impact
The Last Hundred (TLH) is requesting funds for its project titled “The Last Hundred Ensemble’s Inaugural Concert,” an event that will feature TLH’s newly formed ensemble performing a unique program of art music written in the last one hundred years. The compositions being presented were written between 1921 and 2021, therefore spanning exactly one hundred years.
Despite the fact that TLH is a newly formed ensemble, it is formed by artists with extensive experience and that have individually or as part of organizations received funding for multiple projects. Members of the groups have received grants from national and international institutions and contributions from supporters.
